What are the requirements of getting married in Mexico?
Original Birth Certificates.
Valid 10 year passports, Full names, addresses, occupations.
Driving license for identification.
Full names of both sets of parents (if not on Birth Certificates).
Statutory declaration stating that both parties are single. This must be stamped and sealed and state the word "solicitor" with
the signature or on the headed paper.
A blood test be undertaken by both parties in Mexico.
Recent legislation may require some additional documents - Contact Embassy for latest requirements.
If divorced - Decree Absolute with court stamp. If widowed - Death Certificate of former spouse and previous Marriage Certificate.
If name has been changed by Deed Poll - legal proof stamped and signed by a solicitor. This also applies if a married woman has reverted back to her maiden name. If adopted - the adoption certificate.
If aged under 21 years - parental consent in the form of Statutory Declaration stamped and signed by a solicitor.
Minimum residency before wedding - 5 working days.
Note: the ceremony is conducted in Spanish in the presence of an interpreter and the marriage certificate is in Spanish.
All documents from the U.S. except for the valid U.S. passport must have a certification called an "APOSTILLE" which should be obtained at the office of the Secretary of
State in the state where the document was issued. You must be divorced for at least a year before you can marry in Mexico

Get Married in a Tropical Paradise!
"Rocky Point experiences only 2 inches of rain a year so a dry wedding ceremony with plenty of sunshine is pretty much guaranteed. During the winter months the days are warm although the nights can get a bit chilly. The sun shines almost year round. For most of the year the days are warm and sunny. The water temperature is often above 80 degrees and there is almost always an ocean breeze to produce pleasant romantic evenings.
It is strongly recommended that you obtain temporary Mexico auto insurance. It is not a requirement, however normal U.S. auto insurance is not valid in Mexico.
There is no need for honeymooners to worry about exchanging their money into pesos; American money is widely accepted throughout Rocky Point.
Some businesses accept credit cards and checks, be sure to ask first!
There are many legalities, such as paperwork, blood tests no more than 14 days before wedding date, etc., plus birth certificates apostilized by the Mexican consulate in your home country must be sent preferably 3 months before the wedding. In Mexico, church weddings do not change your marital status. You will need to get married by a Justice of the Peace before your church wedding.
That all seems so complex - and it is . . . and expensive. So, I will let you in on the secret to my success in performing Rocky Point beach weddings.
A wedding ceremony performed by a United States Minister/Officiant in Mexico is not a legal ceremony. Because of the legalities of Mexico law, to simplify the process of getting married there, a brief legal ceremony with witnesses can be arranged anywhere in the Greater Phoenix area (or Arizona) prior to a ceremony in Mexico. That way your wedding will cost you less, be legal in the U.S., less time consuming and stress-free!

What is needed to be legal in the U.S.?
The Hague Convention on the Celebration and Recognition of the Validity of Marriages (1978) obliges
signatories to recognize marriages validly entered into in foreign countries, with certain reservations. The convention obliges
signatories to legally recognize marriages certificates from any foreign country whose requirements have been met. The USA is not
a signatory to the Hague convention. Theoretically this means that the USA is not obliged to
recognize foreign marriages without
adding additional legal or documentary requirements.
In practice however, The US government
recognizes all foreign marriages that are
recognized by the country in which they took place, provided the parties to the marriage would also have been allowed to marry
in the USA.
If you have any doubts about this, contact the office of the attorney general of the state in the United
States where the parties to the marriage live.
