"The Ocean Kayak Yak Board is a fairly short and light boat made of roto molded plastic that is tough and durable. Unlike traditional kayaks, the Yak Board is a sit-on-top boat; instead of sitting inside the boat, you sit in a depression on top of the boat. The boat is good for people up to about 220 pounds- Ocean Kayak advertises 240, but this is the very upper range. My brother- in-law was sinking the boat completely at about 280. I have a lot of fun with the boat at 200."
"The Yak Board is a bit slow and awkward on flat water for a larger paddler (180 lbs+)- you can use it for short distances in lakes and bays, but anything over a mile or two would be unduly tiring due to the short hull length. Lighter paddlers should find it a bit easier to propel through the water and can use it for longer excursions." From Keith Vaughn about.com

No matter where you go, this is a sport that every age can enjoy given the right conditions. The more youthful
enjoy wave riding, while others enjoy the calm waters of the bays. Either way you prefer, be respectful of the wildlife & your fellow man while surrounded
by the beauty. Remember why your there, its to relax mentally.
There are several places to kayak in the area. You can kayak on the open sea around Sandy Beach, Cholla Bay &
East Beach. These beachs are open to the sea, thus depending on the tidal action, it maybe real calm or you can fight the waves to get in & out.
Another place that offers protected waters & more diversity is Estura Mura. At high tide, you can kayak throughout the estuary in the channels. While doing this, you can see an abundance of wildlife, including great blue herons, egrets, oyster catchers, sandpipers and many other species of birds & wildlife. Bring a pocket fisherman and you'll be eating Paloma Pompano & corvina for dinner. Be sure to check the tidal chart for the best times to go out. When the tide is at its low tide, the estuary is completely empty. It is best to plan your trips around the full & new moons, as we experience higher tides.

An Ocean kayak is one which the cockpit is closed and your foot well is above the kayak versus within. The
typical kayak is 9'-10' feet in length and weigh around 40-50 lbs. The operator weight capacity of these kayaks is 275-325 lbs.
These
kayaks are easy to transport to and from the beach & are fun for all. Their wide base, short length & built-in keel are stable enough
for beginning paddlers, but spunky enough to provide fun on a variety of water types. You can use these kayaks for general recreation,
snorkeling, surfing, fishing photography and fitness.
Those of all ages can learn to operate these very quickly & you will enjoy the experience. One word of advice, it take upper body strength for the paddling around. There are one or two person models available.
