We want to stay in Mexico for an extended stay, Do we need a visa?

Mexico, like the U.S., has laws regarding foreigners visiting thier country. The State of Sonora has has some special circumstances also regarding foreigners visiting. U.S. and Canadian citizens may enter Mexico and travel to Puerto Penasco, without any requirements (You should have a passport or a birth certificate & ID, you need it to re-enter the U.S.) Your visit, technically, should be less than 72 hours, however we have never heard of anybody questioned on the time period. If you intend to stay for an extended period, you should file for an FMT - a short-term non-immigrant tourist visa, which is good for up to 180 days. If you own real estate or want to do business in Mexico, you can file for a FM3
